Batman's Dostoyevsky Comics

Here is a Batman story you have probably never seen before. Its from Masterpiece comics (Where classics and cartoons collide!) by R. Sikoryak, first edition 2009. One of the stories in the book is this one titled "Crime and Punishment!"

From Comics to Film! on TCM

I know what I'll be doing this coming Wednesday. While reading my floppy copy of Batman & Robin Eternal #24, I came across an ad for TCM's March 23rd "From Comics to Film!" night. Among the offering this night will be Batman's first screen appearance in the 1943 Batman serial. Other offerings include episodes of Tunnel of Terror,  The Green Hornet, Buck Rodgers, Purple Death, Ace Drummond, Dick Tracy, the first entry in the Saint movie series "The Saint in New York", and the thing I am most interested in seeing, two episodes of the 1943 Phantom serial. I love the character of The Phantom, and I have always wanted to see this old Phantom serial. I can't wait to sit in the dark in front of my big screen TV watching the campy fun and munching my hot buttered popcorn.

Little Golden Book Monday #165

Today's Little Golden Book is DC Super Friends: Big Heroes which was released May 2011.
Trouble comes in many shapes and sizes, but no trouble is too big for the world's mightiest heroes. When the Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Superman, and Batman unite to save the day, they are known as the Super Friends! This book is based on the Super Friends toy line and comic book series which ran from May 2008 until the final issue (#29) in Sept 2010. My son and I bought this comic each month and enjoyed it immensely, but as you can see, the final issue sported the Bat-Mite on the cover. Was it just a coincidence that this was the last issue of the series, or was the apperance of the Bat-Mite the point where the series jumped the shark, kinda like when they introduced Scrappy-Doo to the Scooby-Doo series, or the Great Gazoo to the Flintstones.

In any event, it's nice to see the DC Super Friends continuing to live on in the Little Golden Book series.

Little Golden Book Monday #164

Today's Little Golden Book is DC Super Friends Batman! The book was released back in May 2012, just two months before the release of the summer blockbuster, The Dark Night, so I am sure it enjoyed the extra hype that came along with the release of the movie. Since Batman is my favorite comic book hero, I had this on my list to pick up as soon as it was released, but once again, it took a while as I could not find it anywhere in my area. I picked up my copy at the Barnes and Noble in Bellingham, WA.
Batman doesn't have superpowers. Instead, he uses his brains and crime-fighting tools to catch crooks and bring in the bad guys. It says so right there on page 4 of the book. I think that is why I like Batman so much. My favorite superheroes are Batman, Daredevil and Captain America, all superheroes who don't have typical superpowers.
And hey, what's with Superman there in the background of the cover. That's a Bat Signal in the sky, not a giant "S" in the sky. I guess things are slow in Metropolis.

Bob Kane signed Batman comic book

What a find! I visited one of my favorite out the way comic shops today and spent an hour digging though the back issue bins. I ended up coming home with some great old Batman, Detective, Daredevil and Amazing Spider-man issues, including one very special Batman issue. I picked up Batman issue #254 from February 1974 for just $8. Imagine my surprise when I opened it up to read it tonight and found that right there on the first page, it was signed "Bob Kane". And later on in the issue it was again signed with a note "to my friend." How lucky is that!? You don't think it could be a fake do you?

Batman comics score!

Today my son and I went to a comic shop that we do not visit very often. I was looking for the Boom Studios Incredibles comic issue #2 (which seems to be sold out everywhere!) as well as any cheap old Batman comics and any comics for Kaden - he likes Batman, Spiderman and the Teen Titans. There was a sign outside the shop which said "hundreds of comics for 25 cents each!" We had a blast going though the 25 cent and dollar boxes and found a ton of great stuff for Kaden and myself, including a bunch of 70's, 80's & 90's Batman and Detective Comics, which are the two titles that I am currently having fun trying to collect. Check out the photos of my Batman comics score!
Unfortunately we did not find a copy of the Incredibles comic we were searching for (cue disappointment music).

Batman Birthday Cake

Kaden had his birthday a while back and he wanted a Batman theme for his party. There were the usual Batman cups, napkins etc, and lots of Batman gifts including a Batman costume which he wore for the rest of the day! He also had a special Batmobile birthday cake that looked just like the Batmobile from the Batman Strikes cartoon series, complete with Batman and Robin action figures. I especially liked the graphics on the napkins which were also from the Batman Strikes cartoon series, which is my personal favorite of all the Batman cartoon series.

BATMAN New Times

There is a ton of cool stuff on the internet, and it's impossible to find it all!
Here is something I found a year or two ago and forgot about until tonight when my son and I were hunting though YouTube.com looking for Batman stuff. I remembered seeing this amazing Batman student film a few years back and after a few seconds of Google searching we found it again. What makes this short film so cool is not only is it a very well done short film visually, but they actually got Adam West, Mark Hamill, and Dick Van Dyke to do the voices of Batman, Robin and Commissioner Gordon. Click here to check out the film, and when you are done, click the "Movies" logo at the top right of the screen to see all of their other student films from Dave School the Digital Animation & Visual Effects School.

Batman's Got Milk

Here is a "Got Milk?" ad from 2005 with Batman sporting a milk mustache. This ad tied in with the release of Batman Begins in 2005.
There is also a brand new "Got Milk?" ad once again featuring Batman, this time, to tie in with the upcoming "The Dark Knight" movie. I'll scan and post it soon.

Who Knew, Batman uses Onstar?!

Here are two ads I found in some old magazines from 2000. I always thought that Batman was so cool when he was driving around in the Batmobile. That car could do just about anything, and made KITT look like a remote control kiddie car. But it turns out that Batman actually had a little secret up his sleeve, or under his suit... or whatever you want to call it.
Have a look at these two ads which reveal his little secret!
