Little Golden Book Monday #138

This is a book my son gave me on the weekend while he was cleaning up his room. He was going though his two large book cases full of books and boxing up all the ones he no longer reads, so that he can donate them to a local thrift shop. He knows that I like Little Golden Books, so he brought this one to me and asked if I wanted it. Surprisingly I did not already have this one in my collection, so I thanked him for the new addition to my collection, and here we have today's book. Walter Lantz's Woddy Woodpecker at the Circus from 1981 (original printing 1976).
Along with the cover, I have scanned some images from the book, including a two page spread of Woody and his niece and nephew, Knothead and Splinter hanging out in the back yard sipping lemonade and reading the Circus Book.
Next up is a great Lion Tamer illustration. Reminds me of a lamp I used to have as a kid.
And lastly, I scanned the inside front cover. As you can see, this book was a prize at Lynne's 5th birthday party. Thanks Lynne!

Tell-A-Tale Books Day 3

Here are four more great old Tell-A-Tale books. Woody Woodpecker Shoots the Works from 1955, Walt Disney Productions' Robin Hood and Skippy's Best Birthday from 1973, How To Be A Grouch by Oscar the Grouch from 1976, and Roy Rogers and the Sure 'Nough Cowpoke from 1952.

Little Golden Book Monday #39

In honour of the The Woody Woodpecker and Friends Classic Collection DVD which I have not purchased yet, but have at the top of my Amazon.ca "Wish List", I present today's Little Golden Book, Woody Woodpecker Takes a Trip. Originally printed in 1961, this is the Twelfth printing from 1981.
I have always liked Woody Woodpecker, but there are certainly many of the classic cartoons (most notable the later ones) that are pretty lame. But, the ones that aren't lame, are usually really enjoyable, with many being absolutely hilarious! This book is very much in the "enjoyable" category, as the story is fun, and the artwork by Al White and Ben DeNunez is really pleasing eye candy.
As for the DVD which was released July 2007, I am looking forward to sitting back and watching all the early cartoons, especially the very first Woody cartoon, "Knock Knock" in which Woody is absolutely out of control. And "Ski for Two" has one of my all time favorite cartoon scenes, as Woody swooshes down the ski slopes singing this demented little song which was stuck in my head for many years as a child!
If anyone has an extra copy of this DVD set that they don't know what to do with, you can send it my way!
